New Jersey Nonprofit Shares the Joy of Reading and Tackles Book Waste

A student’s access to books at home can have a bigger impact on their education than many other factors including their parents' education level or their country's wealth, according to a 2010 study by the University of Nevada.

The Vin Gopal Civic Association (VGCA) honored Bridge of Books Founder & Executive Director, Abigail Daly, with a Community Leader Award and a $1500 grant at their 2025 Awards Event. VGCA hosted this year’s event at the iconic Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

In accepting this recognition, Daly said, “The ongoing work that I do through Bridge of Books wouldn’t happen without the support of a tremendously talented Board of Directors, a dedicated group of volunteers, and our community partners, who drive from far and near to pick up books for the kids they serve. These funds will help us purchase high-interest, diverse books to supplement these donations.”

Bridge of Books is thrilled to share that Jersey Shore TriGals has chosen us as their 2025 charity.

Giving back to the community is an integral part of the group’s mission. Over the last 20 years, Jersey Shore TriGals has donated several thousands of dollars to local charities, selected annually by the members through a voting process.

Dreaming of Cooler Days? Register for the 2nd Annual Bridge of Books’ “5k Run for Reading!”

My friend Susan, a Bridge of Books board member, shared last year's race flier with me, knowing my love for running. I saw that it would be held in a pretty and serene county park with wooded trails and wildlife in the Fall, my favorite season because of the crisp and refreshing air and vibrant foliage.
